I entered his phone number—I’d deleted him from my contacts a long time ago but still remembered it byheart—and pressed send. I returned to the music room and closed the lid on the piano. Giving it a loving pat, I whispered, “Good night, my darling,” and then I trudged to bed.

Sliding between cool sheets, I grabbed a pillow and hugged it close to my chest. All I had to do now was to wait for him to answer.

It happened a lot quicker than I expected, considering it was in the middle of the night. And it didn’t come as a text on my phone.

I was still wide awake when someone knocked on my door half an hour later, and I knew who it was before I even got out of bed. Who else could it be at four in the morning but Vee?
