Dane's a Decrypter down on his luck -- after accidentally dispatching the wrong creature, he's sent to a small town where the cryptids he hunts are sparse. Bad Seed

“You’ve lived in Bleu Falls how long? We have creeks, falls, lakes, ponds, even more than one river here. This isn’t surprising. It was on the map.”


“I didn’t look at the frickin’ map.” Dane moved to stand beside Sean where he’d stopped short. “Shit. The creek.”


They stood at the edge of the water, the bank several feet above the surface. It was wider than Dane was expecting, a good fifteen feet across at least, and several feet deep.


“Bet it gets pretty swift in the spring,” said Sean, looking around. “Looks like it’s almost four feet in the center now—nice and clear. Gorgeous.”


“So the magic well’s in the water here,” said Dane. “What a waste of time.”


“No,” said Sean, nudging him. He pointed. “I think it’s over that island.”
