What a joke. True, he was happy to be alive, happy John was with him, but to live through the destructionof their planet and have to sit back and watch made him sick to his stomach. And his other dream was now forever out of reach.

John chuckled at him. That was fine. Honestly, they needed every bit of humor they could scrape together out of this horrific predicament. If he thought for too long about it, on the countless dead and desolated earth and hopeless survivors, if there were any, Jason wouldn’t last long.

Those thoughts must have been plain on his face, because John slipped his hand around the back of his neck and squeezed just enough to bring Jason out of the awful place he’d found in his head. What a clusterfuck. “I’m okay. I’ve got to think of something else, that’s all.”
