His lover floated in the black for a moment at the open hatch. When Jason finally pulled the door wide, it was slow and cautious, as though he expected it to be a figment of his imagination. It was the same way John felt, if he was honest. There was a surreal quality to the whole episode. It was the release of adrenaline and it left John lightheaded, limbs trembling like noodles through the rest of the tension of the moment.

Lungs on fire, John gasped when Jason pulled the airlock shut behind him and his eyes stung as Jason came to rest against the curved wall. John slapped his hand to the control panel and tried to manage the wait while the isolated room repressurized. Jason hadn’t twitched at all once the door was shut.
