Chapter 5

“Let’s go,” Gardner says.

“Huh? Oh, sure.” He’d just about gotten up the guts to talk, but he’s relieved that it doesn’t haveto be now. It has to be later then, telling Gardner, when he’s ready and not because Gardner floods him with questions.

Gardner’s house is unique, open and airy, just as it was the first time he went there.

He stops at the hall and puts his suitcase down. Gardner comes behind him.

“Come on. I’ll show you to your room.”

Your room, not ours. Gardner didn’t even try. Somehow it makes Kyle sad but he’s the one that wanted it this way. He just nods.

“Sure.”

The room is beautiful, and he looks around appreciatively. It’s like being in a tropical country. The four-poster bed in the middle has a mosquito net over it. Kyle chuckles. Gardner watches him with amusement.

“What?”
