Never in a million years.

Then it all flooded back to him, and he was grateful for his neighbor’s kindness. He felt sick, and when he stood, he fell back on the bed.

What the hell?

Kenji walked in. “Hey, how are you doing?” He looked into James’ eyes. “Ohhhh, you don’t look good. Do you feel as bad as you look?”

James nodded. “Yes. Feel weak.”

“You shouldn’t be alone. It’s Saturday. You can stay here, especially since I have no love life right now.”

James objected. “No, I don’t want to intrude.”

“I’ll bring you more chicken soup, and I have a casserole handy. No prob. That’s what neighbors are for. You should not be alone, and unless you have a decent boyfriend you can ask to come over, you’re staying here.”

“Boyfriend? Why do you say that?”

“I saw the news conference on TV recently. You came out as gay. No big deal. I came out when I was in high school.” Kenji shook his head. “You just look and act so straight. My gaydar sucked. No way I figured you for gay.”
