I shouldn’t be here, he decided when no one sparked his interest. It’s still early. Maybe…Setting his glass down, Tonio got up, walking quickly out of the club.

Reni opened the door to her apartment and stepped aside to let Tonio in. After closing the door, she leaned against it, looking at him. “I figured you’d be either out clubbing, or home in bed.” She smiled sweetly. “And not alone.”

“I did go to a club,” he admitted, “and decided I wasn’t in the mood.”

She stepped forward, putting her hand on his forehead. “No fever, so you’re not sick.”

Tonio chuckled. “Nope. I just wanted some sane company. Someone to relax with, without needing to prove anything.”

Reni snorted softly as she walked past him into the living room. Settling down on the sofa with her legs curled under her, she waited for him to join her. When he did, taking the other end of the sofa, she said, “Do you want to talk about it?”

“About what?”

“About whatever’s bothering you.”
