Chapter 43

It took a while for one to get to Lex’s estate, since it was well outside the city limits, but it finally arrived. Dirk almost fell asleep, leaning against Bay’s shoulder, on the drive into town. He jumped when Bay nudged him, saying, “We’re here,” and they got out.

While Bay paid for the cab, Dirk studied the house. It was painted a pale yellow, which surprised him. Not that it was bad. As he told Bay, “It looks homey,” which it did, with several trees in front, alonga winding path to the front porch.

“The color came with the place and I haven’t bothered to repaint,” Bay replied.
