Chapter 13

Chad’s words came rushing back to him.

The happiness was still here, he just refused to acknowledge it.

“What’s wrong?” He gingerly made his way down to her.

“Come see for yourself.” She wheeled her chair around in a blink and was off, this time heading for the front door.

Rafael let his curiosity lead the way. An idle thought slipped quickly by, what a pair they made, her in her chair and him on crutches. For some reason it tickled his funny bone and he chuckled. Pearl cast him a glance over her shoulder, one eyebrow arched.

“Nice to see you in a good mood for once,” she said, stopping at the door. She undid the locks and yanked it open. “I knew that man would be good for us.”
