“I had a great time that night…it was just that one time, right? I mean you didn’t think it was anything more, did you?”

“No.” Jeremy lied. “We just never talked about it.” Jeremy turned and headed into the courtyard. “I’ll come up and get you in about an hour?”

“Okay, sounds good.” Alan stopped on the steps going up to his room. “Dinner’s on me tonight.”

“If you insist.” Jeremy had a moment of confidence. He turned around. Their eyes met. He went to speak, to tell Alan he wanted more. Alan smiled then rounded the corner of one of the small buildings that made up the complex. “I love you,” Jeremy said. There was no one to hear his confession.
