Jobe shares his beautiful blue gaze with me. He licks the side of his cone, removing its lines of melting ice cream. Once he has the cream under control, he says, “I’m sorry about your breakup. I feelresponsible.”
“Trust me, you’re not the reason why I dumped Kasey. The end of us was going to happen with or without you. So don’t feel responsible.”
“I’ve been in your way, Parker. You can’t deny that. Maybe if I weren’t around, the two of you would still be a couple.”
I refuse to agree with him. What he says isn’t true. My destiny entails being without Kasey. I tell Jobe this, but I don’t think he listens to me. And I tell him that my relationship with Kasey, or lack of, is not going to be a topic of discussion because it will ruin our time together.
He agrees.
Case closed.
