Chapter 9

“You’re waking up at last.”

The deep voice sounded warm and pleased. Opening his eyes, Jayce looked up into the face that had been lingering on the edges of his awareness.

“Where…what…why?” While he could not yet frame coherent questions, he knew he needed answers, a whole lot of them.

“You’ve been on life support and in ReGen for forty days. Everything is back to normal now; all of it is like new. It’ll take you a while to build back to the strength, reflexes, and control you had. I’ll help you. The doctors taught me how to do the therapy you’ll need.”

The other man studied him for a moment then, worry forming a tight crease down between his dark brows and expressive ebony eyes. “Do you remember me?”

“Balt.” The name came from somewhere and with it images so intensely erotic that Jayce squirmed. “I don’t think I understand about how I was wounded.”
