Lain muttered, mainly in amusement, “I tell him he is properly attired and he questions it. She says he will pass and she gets thanked.”

“She is female.” Theirn told him.

“Excellent point.” He gave the dress to Theirn and he went to try it on while the others waited in anticipation.

When Theirn stepped into view several long moments later Alassiel hurried across the cavern, stopped, had him turn in a full circle, and then made a few adjustments. Then she proclaimed he too would pass. “From a distance,” she added. “Therefore be wary. Allow Castien to do the bargaining while you act the captured creature cowering in fear in the door of the shop.”

“Gods, I hope this works,” Theirn muttered.

“We shall know by this evening. Now go and change, Theirn.”

He did as she bid them. When he returned, the dress and wig he would be wearing for the subterfuge were carefully wrapped into a small bundle which he set by the entrance to the cavern.
