When I straightened, Asher was right there in front of me, in my personal space, and it was then that I realized I was actually taller and broader than him now. Huh.

“Things have changed since you left, Kaylie. You might be surprised.”

I crossed my arms on my chest, and he was close enough that I felt the heat from his body. I was beyond frustrated and wanted him gone, especially before I broke down and did something stupid, like kiss that stupid smirk off his face.

“Stop calling me that!” I growled. “I just want to be left alone. Got it?”

Perhaps I’d finally gotten through to the interloper, because Asher suddenly backed away and held up his hands as if to pacify me. “Okay, I get it. No need to bite my head off.” As if I was the one at fault. He frowned. “You’re still holding high school against me, aren’t you?”
