Chapter 63

“Is there anything you can tell me now about what you do that won’t compromise whatever it is that’s happening Monday morning?” I thought about it for a minute and decided to trust him.

“I own a small consulting firm in the healthcare culinary field. Paula is my partner in crime. She handles the finance and office side of things, and I do the hands-on work, literally. I…I guess you could say I infiltrate hospitals to work in different aspects of food services, see how things work, what can be improved, streamlined, costs cut, et cetera. Food safety, service quality, software management—these are some of the things I investigate.”

“That’s amazing.” He drank some wine. “How long have you been doing this?”

“Oh, years and years. I enjoy it. This assignment has been the exception, and almost everyone has been a prick, with you being the anomaly. You’ve just been a pain in my ass.”

He chuckled. “See? You like me already.”

I snorted. “Don’t flatter yourself.”
