I cleaned up, dressed in an old tank top and jock strap and plopped myself on the bed, eyelids falling shut before I could think about anything more than the deep, raspy voice that had somehow soothed me.

The bright morning sunlight woke me. The only windows in my apartment were by the bed, and the blinds were open. I felt groggy and disoriented, wanting the world to just tone it down a bit. Rubbing my face, I sat up and blinked, gazing bleary-eyed at the rooftop of the building next door. What the hell was I supposed to do with my life now?
I rolled my shoulders and moved my neck from side to side before standing and stretching. My body was sore, a reminder of the disaster from yesterday that I really didn’t want to contemplate right now. I went to the bathroom to take a piss, then wandered into the living room, only to freeze in shock.
