Chapter 15

“Don’t you dare close your eyes.” I shook him. The odor of his body engulfed me and made me ravenous with desire. “Look at me,” I screamed. “Is this what you want?”

He opened his eyes. He didn’t just look at me, he looked into me. Closer and more intimate than anyone ever had. The fear I first saw in his eyes flickered and died almost immediately. Compassion, curiosity, or something else, perhaps even grief over his dead husband, filled the void the terror left in its wake.
