Chapter 3

“Cheers,” the knight said, taking one of the mugs and downing about half its contents in one go. “I needed that.”

Harry nodded and pulled up a second chair. “Thirsty work being a knight I suppose.”

The man shook his head. “Don’t know about that. Like I said, Toby’s the knight.”

Harry nodded again and took a drink of his water. He, too, found himself rather thirsty, so took another drink. “Didn’t think there’d be much call for knights these days.” Harry felt comfortable asking indirect questions, particularly about someone else.

“Toby’s a reenactor up at the castle at weekends. Amongst other things, he’s one of their jousters.”

“Wow.” Harry finished his water and stared into the bottom of his mug. He really ought to throw his old mugs away. Maybe get some plastic glasses for water. He should probably drink less tea and more water.
