Chapter 11

I shake my head. “I don’t know where you heard that, but it’s not true. Jamie and I are frenemies. We hate each other more than we like each other.”

“Frenemies who sleep together…according to your mother.”

Jesus, I think under my breath. Mom isbehind David’s visit and all the gifted watercolors.

I try to clear the air and say to him, “Never believe what my mother tells you. Jamie Oakley is my complete opposite. We’re barely friends. The last thing we want to do is sleep together, let alone have a relationship of any kind.”

He huffs, sounding like a farm animal, maybe a horse. “But you’re always with him. I’m sure the two of you are screwing around under the sheets and elsewhere.”

I vehemently shake my head. “Not true. Yes, we work together and spend approximately forty-five hours a week side by side, but that’s about it. We rarely, if ever, see each other outside work. And when we do, it’s basically Jamie talking about himself all the time.”
