Chapter 14

What he tells me sounds real. Honesty from his heart. A different and valued side of Jamie Oakley that I really like. A better Jamie. A nice Jamie. Someone I can like and be comfortable around. Someone I wantto be friends with.

We sit and talk for the next forty minutes. He rubs two fingertips against my left thigh, playfully, not sexually. He kisses my cheek two more times and becomes someone I don’t know but enjoy spending time with. He admits to me how he can be brutally honest, rudely playful, and has never had a filter when speaking, which has always gotten him in trouble.

“I’m an asshole,” he tells me. “You even called me that a few days ago.”

“I didn’t mean it,” I confess. “I’m sorry.”
