Chapter 27

Something uncomfortable coiled in Finn’s chest, and he glanced away, but the pull of Brody was too strong, and he had to look back.

Brody didn’t pick the board up, and it drifted further into the sea. It was still in the shallows, still easy to reclaim, but Brody didn’t make any move towards it.

Reece splashed into the sea to retrieve the board, and Emily moved to Brody, and clutched his shoulder. Brody brushed off her hand, turned his back on the sea, and rushed up the beach. He ducked his head, and his spine was bent forward, and he didn’t stop even when his friends called out to him.

Finn glanced at Trent. “I wonder what that’s about.”

Trent frowned, then shrugged. “Maybe he’s finally realized he’s not invincible.”9
