“Coming in?” he asked.
“You know I can’t.” Brody hissed.
“No deeper than our ankles, I promise.”
He didn’t turn back to Brody but stared into the distance. The waves rushed back and forth, masking the sounds behind him, but he felt Brody’s presence close and smiled. The sea was biting cold, and his feet paled beneath the two inches of water.
“Okay?” Finn asked.
“My heart feels like it’s about to explode.”
Finn turned his back to the sea and looked at Brody. His skin had drained of color, and he stared at his feet as the water brushed against him. He inhaled deeply, and exhaled slowly. Finn watched him for a few minutes, then stepped closer. He jolted in surprise when Brody grabbed his hand and tugged him closer. He pressed Finn’s hand flat against his chest.
“Feel that?”
Finn felt Brody’s pulse against his hand. It was hard and fast, the same tempo his own pumped after an exhausting day at the gym.
Finn rubbed his hand gently against Brody’s hoody. “It’s okay.”
