Jim laughed.
Angela pretended to vomit, taking everyone’s attention. Winston rushed to her, holding her head. He put her back to bed in the living room.
Winston said, “Grandpa, where’s that tea that’s good for calming people?”
“It’s the elderberry tea. In the top cabinet.”
Winston got it, but Tony kept a close eye on him. He couldn’t do anything or grab a kitchen knife. Dustin was ready to pounce but didn’t have a chance. He was becoming as frustrated as all the others in the family, and he was willing to take more of a chance.
Two more days came and went. Joy and Angela argued, or pretended to argue. The same with Winston and Travis, with Winston punching Travis, who pretended to be knocked out for a while.
That night, Tony fell asleep guarding them. Winston and Travis got their cuffs undone with the keys Grandpa gave them. They were about to uncuff Dustin when Tony stirred and woke. He went to the kitchen for water, and the guys got the cuffs back on so Tony didn’t notice.
