Chapter 19

So, no easy path to catch Rafael’s interest. Disappointed, Grant retraced his route to the freeway and headed home to change his clothes and check in with his office. When he pulled into the garage, he sat for a few moments wishing things had gone better. The whole trip had been a disaster—no traces to be found of the hacker and no clue to the whereabouts of the missing children. And that beautiful little girl who was slipping away—what price was she going to pay for his lack of success?

On the plus side, at least they’d uncovered a heartless profiteer with claws sunk deep into the facility’s funds. God only knew how many omega lives had been harmed by Lowther’s greed. Grant could and would do something about that.

And then there was Rafael. Grant’s relationship with the man was at best stalled, at worst over before it began. An insignificant problem in comparison to all the rest, but still it ate at him. He wasn’t used to being so damned powerless.
