A wry smile of satisfaction curved his lips. At least he’d suckered Grant for a while—the man had believed the attraction between them was lust, not instinct. But that tiny triumph wouldn’t be much comfort for long—not after he went into heat.

The sudden memory of his one and only heat at the age of fifteen had him shivering. His mother had provided him with a selection of sex toys, some herbal soothers, and all the privacy he might want. But nothing had eased the gaping need to be filled, the relentless, writhing drive to mate.

Grant was right about Rafe revealing anything the man wanted to know. After twelve years of suppressants, a heat cycle would crack his resistance like river ice in a spring thaw. The idea of begging the alpha for relief sickened him at the same time his omega side thrilled to it.
