“Love is strange,” I told him. “I’m sure you’ll see your family soon.”

“I can only hope.”

The movie started. It and Dietrich’s company helped to neutralize my busy head as it still swam with details of the body found under Coleman Bridge. I settled in to the movie, its brilliant actors, the green-blue themes of love between a lonely woman and government’s pet. Irreversibly, I calmed and enjoyed myself. At least for the time being. 6

Approximately at eleven-thirty, Dietrich left my place, having fallen in bedazzled love with the award-winning movie: enlightened, dizzy, and joyous. I turned off the flat-screen and prepared for an all-nighter with a horror novel. Being a bloodsucker meant I didn’t get much sleep, at least during the post-midnight hours.
