He continued, “We saw the entire event. I, of course, wasn’t at all fazed by the occurrence, but poor Jerry was. He threw up as you took every ounce of blood from the musician, and he stayed sick for the rest of the night, which ruined my sex-time with the man.”

A beam of light flashed at the east entrance of the tunnel. He swung his head in that direction. Again, Kalin wasn’t startled.

“Your assistant, Toby, has arrived to clean up your mess. Such a good young man. Shall we call him your ride or die man?”

“I call him my lover,” I whispered.

“Kudos to you,” he replied, nodding. He leaned over and picked up the gun he had dropped. “Perhaps one day I will find a true love like you.”

I moved my right hand to his cold left one and told him, “Follow me. We should leave. Toby will be confused.”

He chuckled, toying with me. “I’m so pleased you’re salvaging my life this evening, Jonathon. Some vampires who dislike me wouldn’t.”
