Or I could stay here and get to know Axel better.
He was a walking juxtaposition of hard and soft and scary and tenderhearted, and he intrigued me. The way he behaved around his niece was amazing. I hadn’t been able to take my eyes off him during the movie as he’d bounced on the couch, clapped his hands, and engaged in spirited conversation about who was the better princess: Elsa or Anna.
It disgusted me how fucking judgmental I was sometimes. I’d taken one look at him and believed the worst, and when he turned out to be a nice human being I was shocked. Which one of us was really the bad guy?
“I…” He closed his eyes and his Adam’s apple bobbed in his throat. “I have to ask you somethin’ first.”
“Go ahead.”
“Are you still afraid of me?”
“No.” My reply was immediate.
He opened his eyes then. “You sure about that?”
