Chapter 9

No use driving just a couple of blocks. The walk would do him good. He strode along, greeting some locals who all seemed rather surprised to see him on foot. One even stopped and asked, “What’s wrong, Barry. Is your car in the shop?”

“No, just decided a little exercise would ease my guilt over that plate of relle?osI’m planning to eat.”

The other man chuckled. “Good thought, but golf is more fun.”

Barry turned in at the café’s door. He paused a moment after he stepped inside to let his eyes adjust to the dimmer light after the brilliant noonday sun. As his vision came back he recognized the man at the second table, back to the door. What luck. There was Justin.

He headed that way. “Hey, Justin. Just the man I wanted to see. How are things going?”

Justin looked up, a deer-in-the-headlights look flashing through his eyes before he seemed to school his face to a neutral expression.

“Fine, just fine. Why don’t you join me?”
