When Abbie took off toward the house and worked her way silently across the lawns to her destination, Hollis moved to the alley to make his way down to the rear of the house. Vanni’s car was empty, but Hollis had expected it would be. There was a side door a few feet away. He tested the door handle, unsurprised when he found it was locked.
