Chapter 11

“Have you seen anything like this before?” Killian asked. He wasn’t concerned with the camera, but Ivan began unscrewing the bolts that held it to its tripod and removed it so he could play with it. He didn’t answer Killian’s question. “Ivan! Have you seen anything like this before? Did you know this was going to happen?”

“Most places have a ghost or two,” Ivan said. He leaned his hips on a counter and began pushing buttons on the camera. “I had a suspicion this place might have more, but…” He shrugged.

“But?”

“I’m not an expert.”

“You advertise your services to summon fucking ghosts, and you’re telling me you don’t really know what you’re doing?”

“Well sure,” Ivan said, but he was avoiding eye contact. “Anyone can use a turkey call to attract a turkey. Doesn’t mean they know how to mate with it when the horny bastard shows up.”

Killian stared. Blinked. Tried to wrap his head around the metaphor. When all failed, he said, “If you’re not going to help, you can leave.”
