Chapter 10

“I wish,” Jared said, even the little smile now gone.

“Okay. Let’s do this,” David said. “We’re both going to feel better on that plane.”

Jared sat quietly for a moment, as if he were about to say something. David looked at him, waiting, quizzical. The car behind them drove off, the driver beeping and screaming something obscene as he went.

“I love you,” Jared finally said. “I really, really love you.”

“You better,” David answered, laughter still in his voice. “You’re about to spend a really long time with me.”

Jared nodded and David closed the door. David stood there, waiting for him to pull off, but Jared motioned for him to go on. When he reached the sliding glass doors, David looked back and saw that Jared was still there. He rolled down the car window, made a kiss with his mouth, and drove away.
