Chapter 18

“So what do you do?”

“I write tech manuals for software programs. A decade ago, I would have had to go into an office at least a few times a week, but most of us at my company do it at home now. They send me a program. I play with it and write a manual on how to use it. Someone else in the company works with me, and most of our communication is done online. If we need to talk, I pick up the phone, or we can meet. The office isn’t far and my partner lives nearby. We’re ahead of schedule, so I will not be doing any work any earlier than the fifth of January. I am free today, if that’s what you’re asking?”

“I actually am,” David said, as Jared put a small plate with a large piece of flan in front of him. “We’re different people now.”

“Yeah, you mentioned that.”

“And so, I thought maybe we could get to know who those people are,” David said tentatively

“What exactly did you have in mind?” Jared asked, placing two cups of coffee on the table and sitting opposite David.
