Chapter 7

“Is that him?”

Damn that twin connection! “Get out of my head, Maddie,” he warned, adding a wink.

He knew that would never happen. He let his hand drop, though, deciding he wanted to check his phone when he had privacy.

“Get back to work,” he barked and laughed at the goofy face she shot him. But he dove in, hoping to get out of there as fast as possible. He loved the camaraderie of the volunteers, and while closing up, they always got a little slap-happy, but he was eager to talk to Jeremy, even if just through texts.

Maddie laughed and headed into the kitchen while the team leader began counting the money from the drawers. Callum was glad he didn’t have to do that. Someone turned on a playlist on their phone and they all worked on their assigned areas. They’d closed down so many times together, they had it down to a science.

A knock at the window sounded through the small stand.

“We’re closed,” Maddie hollered.
