On occasion I would become annoyed at his impatience getting the books, and once I even emailed him that I didn’t think he appreciated what I was doing for him, how difficult it sometimes was, how much of my time it took and how much it cost. That led to an overreaction. I received a blistering email from him about how he was always careful to thank me for what I did for him, how I had accused him unjustly of not appreciating what I did for him. “I’m so offended,” he said, “that I really don’t know how to respond to your email.”
