Chapter 46

When I woke up, a check of my watch told me that a couple of hours had gone by. Amir had gotten up, and I called out for him. He came into the room, smiling, and he was already dressed.

“Why aren’t you still in bed with me?” I demanded.

“There will be time for more of that later,” he smiled. “You must be starving. I will go out to the markets before they close and bring us enough food for at least dinner and breakfast. You need your rest. Go back to sleep. I will prepare us a meal and wake you up.”

“But I want to go with you.”

“Ah, but remember my rule,” he smiled. “I will get a much better price on things if you are not standing nearby. We will explore the markets together tomorrow afternoon when we are buying more things to fill the refrigerator. You can point to the things you want then, return here, and I will buy them for you.”

“Just promise me one thing,” I said to him.

“What is that, Habibi?” he smiled, sitting on the edge of the bed and stroking my leg.
