Chapter 14

“Too little, too late, Lambert. I’ve had time away from you and ourcompany to realize it wasn’t worth my health to deal with anymore. I hope you find someone to help you, and I’m happy you finally pulled your head from your ass. But I can’t go back. I’ve moved on, and I met someone who didn’t need me to be something I’m not, or manipulate or browbeat me or ask me to be anything but myself. I love this man, and one day, I’m going to make him mine, for always.”

Lambert’s shoulders slumped, but he didn’t say anything. What could he say anyway?

I stood and walked to the door, pulling it open. “Have a nice life, Bertie. I wish you well.”

I watched him walk by me, and not another word was said between us after that day.
