He snorted. “They all wonder about me because I usually play my cards close to the chest. But you, you’re a special case. There’s no way I could resist you, especially when you turned up at the club, just ripe for the taking.” He took a left at the next traffic light.

“So what is this thing we’re doing, do you know?” I wasn’t sure why it mattered, but I was curious to hear what he’d say.

“It’s something new, at least to me. I’ve been perfectly fine doing my own thing for years. I have sex when I need it, but there’s something about you that got under my skin from the first time I saw you get out of that Freightliner, pissed as hell. I’m just happy to have a chance to explore it. What do you think?” he asked, hanging a right onto a now familiar street where his apartment building was located.
