Chapter 9

“It’s very nice of you to invite me.”

I stifled a laugh. That was a diplomatic rejection. Though really, he hadn’t said “no.” Who was to say where we’d be a month from now? He might be coming over after all. I tucked away that thought, then turned my attention to the adorable young guy who swished up to our table.

Kyle Swansie was out, loud, and proud. He wore sparkles on his cheeks, and elf ears and hat. He gave us a saucy wink.

“Good afternoon, you gorgeous gentlemen. Can I offer you some eggnog? Or perhaps you want to hear the specials?” He rolled his eyes, but he was grinning. I got the impression that he knew the names were ridiculous, but that he appreciated them all the same. He turned his attention to Emmett, and I didn’t miss the way young Kyle looked him over.

“I’ll just have water, thanks, Kyle,” I said. “Em, honey, are you ready to order?”
