Chapter 48

TJ stared down at his hands. “It was a stupid argument, really, and one we’d had more times than I can recall. He was a slob at times, leaving clothes on the floor where he’d removed them and dishes on the table. I didn’t like housekeeping any more than he did, but couldn’t stand the mess. We argued, got loud. I packed an overnight bag, walked out, and spent the night in a call room at the hospital.”

“And?” Donovan inched a bit closer.

“The next day was a big job interview for me. A position came open for a chief medical officer for the research department. My dream job. Sure, I liked caring for patients, but my heart really wanted to take a stab at research.” TJ met Donovan’s concerned gaze. “I answered the standard questions from the board. Then, one of the assholes asked me about an incident where I pulled another man into a housekeeping closet for a few hot kisses.”

“Someone caught you?”

TJ shook his head. “No.”

Donovan sucked in a breath. “Don’t tell me…”
