Chapter 19

My tossing apparently disturbed Raneld, for around midnight I felt his arms clamp around me, and next thing I knew he’d rolled over and pinned me beneath him. “Be still,” he whispered softly, his voice full of tired frustration. He was panting, his teeth clenched together, and I realized suddenly that some of the rage I felt wasn’t coming from me, it was coming from him, through the link between us.

Part of me wanted to immediately tell him I was sorry. I must have been keeping him up all this time, and I knew well how badly lack of sleep could wear on one. Part of me wanted to simply spit curses, or literally spit at him. Those urges met in the middle with another urge, so instead I grabbed him by his dark hair and yanked him down to kiss him roughly.
