Chapter 12

“Strider, what do I owe this visit? Need money?” He put the groceries away, opened a beer, and split it between two glasses. They adjourned to the balcony overlooking a small park and train tracks.

“Do you miss the farm in Oregon?”

“I miss the open spaces, but not the work. Speaking of work, how is that going? You still making money hand over fist for a kid who never finished college?” He winked.

“You didn’t finish either.”

“I never went. Barely finished high school.” He sipped. “What brings you around?”

“I need an excuse to visit my favorite grandfather?”

“Of course not, and you’re my favorite grandson.” He put an arm around Strider’s shoulder

He groaned. “I’m your onlygrandson.”

“What’s bothering you, Strider? Get a girl pregnant again?”

“It was a hysterical pregnancy. There was no baby.”
