“Yashiv, where is this coming from? Are you already regretting what we did?”

“Never, Master. As I said, I love you, and will continue to love you, no matter what happens.”

“You’ve got this all backward, Yashiv. Being a father would make me happy, yes, but only if you were the child’s father, too. I would like to marry, but only if it’s you.”

“But an heir…”

Cassian shook his head. “I’ve given it a lot of thought, Yashiv. You and I will have to select a child. Not to adopt, but to begin training. Any parent would be thrilled if we picked their child, so we can choose anyone within the camp. We should consult with Uliana to see who she thinks has the aptitude to lead.”

“That would make you the last of your line.”

“I don’t care about that. My father’s memory will live on regardless.”
