Chapter 6

“Tell me about your family,” Jimmy said as he ate his pie.

“There’s my mom and dad—two sisters. Beth’s married to Aaron, and they have two kids, a boy and a girl. Peg’s divorced, but living with a guy. Charlie’s his name. She has one son. So, I have one niece and two nephews.”

“And they’re all going to be home for the holidays?”

“Shit! Yes! And I should call them. They’ll be worried. I should have been home hours ago.” Henry got out his phone and called his parents landline. It went immediately to voicemail. He left a message that he was safe and would try one of his sisters’ cell phones. When he did, the call was answered at once.

“Henry! Are you okay? Mom and Dad are worried sick!” It was his sister Beth.

“Yes, I’m fine. I tried to call the landline, but—”

“We don’t have power. The guys are working on getting Dad’s old generator started. No luck so far. Here, Mom wants to talk to you.”
