Chapter 27

“I’m here,” Tom said. “Let me know when you’re ready and what I can do.”

“Even after this afternoon’s disaster?” Normally, after something like that panic attack, he’d assume a person wouldn’t want to be anywhere in the vicinity of him in a driver’s seat. Tom was obviously different, but it was going to take some time to determine just how different.

“It wasn’t a disaster. You didn’t cause an accident.”

“That’s true. It’s hard to crash when you only drive two yards.”

“It’s been done.”

Tom reached over to take Alex’s hand, which meant he drove one-handed. It didn’t seem like a very good idea at first glance, but their voyage suffered no ill effects that Alex could see. Maybe good drivers were able to go along straight roads just fine with only one hand on the wheel. Alex wouldn’t know.

He didn’t want to give Tom’s hand up, so he decided to take a leap of faith and trust in Tom’s ability to know his own driving limits.
