Chapter 54

“Tell me, Blake,” I said into my cell phone, “What happened with Tracy?”

“He climbed into his Range Rover and drove off immediately. That doesn’t mean Paul didn’t chase after him and beat the living shit out of him, though.”

I expected as much. You didn’t act up like Tracy did and not expect to get a beating. Tracy was a ridiculous man, and he had it coming. The truth of the matter was simple, if anyone asked me: Tracy Rydeman was permanently out of our lives. I was glad Paul hadn’t killed the young hustler, but I was sure he’d gotten his point across with his strong, furious ranch-hand fists. Some men like Tracy had to learn things the hard way, didn’t they?

Blake wished me and Pax well, then hung up before I could say goodbye. He was probably eager to run out to the barn to talk to Paul and Jet.
