Chip started a warm shower for Fargo, which Fargo eventually took advantage of and enjoyed. Fargo soaped up his body, washed his hair, and felt numb under the warm spray, thrilled with becoming clean. Once he was finished showering, Chip supplied him with two towels, which he used to dry off with. And then Chip handed him a cotton robe and told him, “Your story is all over the news. Every channel is rolling with it as a lead story.”

“Just as I expected.”

They lay on Chip’s bed for the next hour, watching the coverage. Some of the newscasters’ facts were spot on while others weren’t. One channel even told its viewers that Daniel Fargo had been shot three times, which he wasn’t, of course. Another channel proclaimed that Fargo was in a coma and on the brink of death.
