Chapter 28

Awkwardness ensued, leaving Mitch ready to squirm with the growing strain between them. Calix’s abruptness left much to be desired. He knew diddly-squat about Calix, yet they were pressed up against one another like lovers on a honeymoon in the snowy mountains of winter. Uncomfortable, Mitch offered up a reprieve. “I’m fine now. Just cold. A hot bath will take care of that.”

“Not yet. I’ll let you know when you’re warm enough to get out of this bed. Until then, you’re staying put.”

Why do I think no one tells this guy no?

“Take a nap, already.” Calix’s voice took on a soothing quality, the likes Mitch hadn’t heard before. He gave the equivalent of a mental shrug, settled down into the blankets, and shut his eyes. Mischievously, he wiggled his rear against Calix’s crotch, then grinned at the resulting catch in Calix’s breathing.

“Smart ass,” Calix grumbled.

Amused and oddly contented, he relaxed and drifted off to sleep.
