Calix forked a sausage and took a bite. The spicy flavor lit up his taste buds. “This is delicious.”
Mitch dipped his head slightly in acknowledgement. “Thanks.” He offered up a lopsided grin. “Stick around. There’s more where that came from.”
Calix’s heart skipped a beat at that little smile. Just enough to show off a dimple. Sexy. Cute. And so damn addictive. Not a bad start to a morning. Not bad at all.“I just might do that.”
The reply slipped out before he could bite it back.

At that moment, with everyone at the table and Lucky working on his own meal a few feet away, peace existed. Smiles, a few chuckles, and a simple feeling of belonging filled the room. A family sharing a meal.
The significance wasn’t lost on Calix.
The fare made his mouth water with the blending of tastes. Mitch, seated right next to him, added in a bit of superb scenery to boot.
