Chapter 9

It was almost noon by the time we left the restaurant. We had talked about everything under the sun, our attraction to each other simmering beneath the surface. Julius drove us back to my apartment and I invited him up for soda or iced tea. He followed me inside. I led him to the couch in my tiny living room while I got a soda for him from the fridge.

“I gotta go get ready for my shift. Give me ten minutes okay?” I said as I handed it to him.

“Sure thing.”

I headed to my bedroom and changed into an old T-shirt with a picture of SpongeBob SquarePants on the front. A pair of jeans shorts and tennis shoes completed my ensemble and I returned to the living room to sit beside Julius on the couch.

He laughed when he saw what I was wearing. “Oh man, are you a fan, too?”

“Yeah, I used to watch that show a lot as a kid, still watch the reruns when I have the time. I thought you’d get a kick out of it.”
